It is a tribute to all five generations, thus closing an impeccable circle that allowed us for the first time in history to participate in the Pokémon World Tournament, a sort of tournament with leaders from all generations. In these titles, finishing the Pokémon League was just the beginning. Not only did we have a larger and more extensive Unova, but we were able to learn what happened two years after the events narrated in Black and White.
In fact, these titles released in 2012 for Nintendo DS were the last, the farewell to the 2D era. It is generally agreed that Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, along with Black 2 & White 2, are two of the most excellent and outstanding pairings of the two-dimensional Pokémon era.
